A good solution to the fuel consumption registration problem is to apply Scirocco tags on the trucks or buses, and a reader at each of the fuel dispensers. The system has sufficient reading range to safely identify the vehicle at appropriate distance from the dispenser for a most convenient and safe vehicle validation and fuelling operation.
The safe vehicle identification ensures that the right fuel quality for the vehicle is filled up.
To open the system for fuelling, the driver keys in the odometer data on a keypad next to the dispenser. As long as the value is reasonable compared with that of the previous fuelling event, and the identification is ok, fuelling can start.
The system also solves the problem of lost or forgotten personal fuel cards, at the same time as it prevents fuel from being filled in wrong vehicle. Fuelling is faster, follow-up accuracy of driving behaviour of individuals is increased and loss due to fraud is reduced.
