Forklift trucks are often moving in and out of stockrooms that store high-value items, where access need to be granted before a gate or door is opened. With a tag on the truck and a reader next to the entrance, validation is swift and without need for the truck driver to step down from the truck and reach a terminal or lock for access.
Readers can also be placed on the truck for reading of racks, containers and other load carriers to be transported. If the object to be fetched is at a densely packed shelf high up were it is hard to see the identity of a bar code, and safety against reading nearby tags by accident is compulsory, Scirocco offers narrow-beam readers.
Keeping the batteries charged is a challenge for any forklift truck operator, to avoid unplanned stops, leaving loads at an unwanted place and towing the truck back to the charging room. With a Scirocco tag on the truck, and readers at the charging room doors, no uncertainty remains regarding which trucks are in and out.
For forklifts that use a replaceable battery pack, a second tag can be hooked up to this and allow for tracking of not only the trucks but also their batteries. Such record makes it possible to know how many times the battery pack has been recharged and when time for battery maintenance is coming up.
