A “fast pass” for bike commuters may at first sound strange, but in light of the current trend towards priority of personal health and lower load to the environments, a convenient and fun method to encourage commuting by bike actually makes plenty of sense.
Scirocco readers with integrated WLAN can automatically update an incentive data base on the web each time a passing bike is registered. This is already a proven and successful tool to support communities and schools with a reliable and tamper-proof way to accurately count and issue a report on bike commuters. Every time a commuter rolls past the read zone, the tag is recognized and the commuter’s file on the net is updated.
Each day a commuater rides past the reader, a lamp lights up, with buzzer sounds to indicate that the ride has been logged. The Scirocco reader wirelessly uploads the commuter’s data to a website, and the child or parent can log on to a website to see the number of accumulated rides.
The system can be set up so that the bike commuter that has the most points gets a prize. The system does the counting, and prizes for frequent commuting by bicycle provides motivation for kids to go to school by bike.
Other uses of bike and/or athletic identification is in sports races, such as in Triathlon where not only a bicycle race is part of the game, but also in swimming and running. Scirocco readers have the performance and functionality required for safely registering a group of fast passing tags, which are designed to stand the extreme environments of Triathlon - such as soaking in water, repeated bending and use at extreme temperatures.
