There is a desire that the collection of waste from households and industry can be connected with automatic debiting for the weight and/or number of pick-ups. Debiting for the amount of waste will encourage the waste producer to create less waste and offers the collector an incentive to invest in better methods of waste treatment.
With tags on the waste bins and readers on the pick-up trucks, every waste bin can be individually identified at pickup for automatic registration and debiting. Further, if the waste truck’s lift system is equipped with a weighing function, this makes it possible to also debit according to the amount of waste collected.
Using long-range UHF technology for this application has several advantages over other identification technologies, not least that the reading range is sufficient to allow large flexibility in the on-truck installations.
