Scirocco ’s founder & CEO Staffan Sjögren has worked in the RFID field since the birth of this technology, when the first long-range RFID patents were filed in Sweden & USA.
In the early '80:ies and with Philips RFID R&D Manager on his namecard, Sjögren assisted automotive plants such as BMW, Audi, VW, GM and Toyota to pioneer Auto ID in their flow-lines. This resulted in a dramatic increase in model/option flexibility, at the same time as capital tie-up in stocked material was reduced. RFID from Philips actually made 'batch size one' manufacturing possible and thereby brought a small revolution to the industry. It now became possible to produce cars to individual customer needs, rather than to produce batches of cars with options and alternatives that not every customer was prepared to pay extra for.
Scirocco technology imbedded its founders’ extensive RFID experience also in other application fields: With immense obstacles bypassed, new territories were conquered such as electronic road tolling, hands-free parking and transportation logistics. Today, a number of the early RFID entrepreneurs have turned the business into established RFID brands with special expertise, and Scirocco is a perfect example of this.
